Huawei Pay expands its reach to another country, reports PaySpace Magazine. The Industrial and Commercial Bank of China, in collaboration with UnionPay International, has officially launched Huawei Pay in Malaysia.
The service operates seamlessly on Huawei devices with NFC support, allowing users to make payments without unlocking their phone, connecting to the internet, or opening an app. Payments are secured using fingerprint authentication.
To set up Huawei Pay, users simply link their CBC UnionPay Credit Cards to the Huawei Wallet app. Once enabled, they can make transactions by tapping their Huawei device on any compatible payment terminal. Huawei Pay is already available in Macau, Hong Kong, Thailand, and Singapore. As previously reported, Uber has partnered with Marqeta to offer payment infrastructure and global cards.
Huawei Pay leverages NFC technology and advanced security protocols to safeguard transactions. This creates a secure communication channel between the device and payment terminal, reducing the risk of data breaches. UnionPay’s global acceptance further enhances the service’s appeal, making Huawei Pay a convenient option for both local users and international travelers who want a cashless payment experience without dealing with currency exchanges.
This launch aligns with Malaysia’s broader push toward digital transformation and a cashless economy. The government has been actively promoting digital payment solutions through initiatives and regulations aimed at building a more inclusive digital ecosystem.
