Revolut is taking a significant step beyond its digital roots by opening its first-ever physical store in Barcelona, signaling a shift toward a hybrid “phygital” banking model that blends digital convenience with in-person service.

The London-based fintech, which serves over 70 million customers globally, confirmed that the Barcelona location will offer a range of in-person services, including account support, onboarding assistance, and general customer service. While no official opening date has been announced, the store is expected to function as a high-visibility, immersive space rather than a traditional bank branch.

According to company representatives, the location will be designed to integrate technology with human interaction, offering customers a more engaging and accessible banking experience. The concept reflects a broader industry trend where digital-first players are exploring physical touchpoints to enhance trust and service quality.

Revolut’s move comes amid ongoing feedback from users highlighting challenges with customer support, particularly in complex cases where direct human interaction is preferred. By introducing a physical presence, the company aims to address these concerns while maintaining its strong digital offering, including its AI-powered in-app assistant, AIR.

Barcelona was selected as the pilot location due to its combination of innovation, tourism, and market density. Spain represents a key market for Revolut, with approximately 6 million users, making it the company’s third-largest market after the UK and France.

This is not Revolut’s first physical initiative in the country. The company has already launched a network of ATMs in Barcelona and Madrid, with plans to expand from an initial 50 machines to as many as 200 across Spain. However, the new store represents a more ambitious step into physical retail and customer engagement.

For now, the Barcelona location will serve as an experimental hub. Revolut has not disclosed plans for additional stores, suggesting that future expansion will depend on customer response and operational performance.

As fintech continues to evolve, Revolut’s hybrid approach could signal a new phase in digital banking—one where convenience and human interaction coexist more seamlessly.
