Alipay+ has ushered in a new era in fintech by enabling the world’s first global e-wallet transaction through AI-enhanced smart glasses, reports PaySpace Magazine. This revolutionary development, made possible by Ant Group’s Alipay+ unified wallet gateway and Meizu’s StarV Snap AR glasses, marks a significant breakthrough in wearable payments.
In collaboration with Meizu and AlipayHK, Alipay+ successfully processed a smart glasses payment using an embedded wallet, eliminating the need for a smartphone or card. This innovation will become available to global Alipay+ wallet partners by the end of 2025, as part of a broader expansion that began with in-store payments via Rokid’s AR glasses.
The solution includes support for QR code scanning and voice command payments, powered by sophisticated AI tools such as voice recognition, gesture control, intent detection, and voiceprint authentication. These features are integrated into Meizu’s lightweight AR glasses, which project payment prompts and confirmations directly into the user’s field of view via NFC and AI-enhanced APIs.
The debut transaction, conducted via AlipayHK – Hong Kong’s top digital superapp – demonstrates how AR wearables can facilitate practical, hands-free commerce. With more than 4.2 million active users and 150,000 merchant partners, AlipayHK shows real-world readiness for embedded payments.
This milestone repositions AR glasses from niche novelty to everyday utility. With over 3.5 million AR glasses currently in use globally, and exponential growth expected (up to hundreds of millions by 2030), the integration of seamless payments may accelerate adoption and transform the wearable landscape.
