UniCredit x Wise: Seamless Cross-Border Payments Unlocked

UniCredit has become the first major European bank to integrate Wise’s international payment capabilities directly into its mobile banking app, reports PaySpace Magazine. This strategic collaboration enables swift and transparent euro-to-foreign currency transfers with competitive rates and a user-friendly interface. Launching in Italy on July 21, the service initially supports transfers to destinations such as the UK, India, Switzerland, Hong Kong, and Singapore, with more regions and currencies to follow.

The embedded solution offers near-instant international transfers with the same ease and speed as domestic payments. According to Raphael Barisaac, UniCredit's Global Head of Payments & Cash Management, the partnership reflects the bank’s commitment to modernize international banking, making it more customer-centric and fintech-inspired.

Steve Naudé, Wise Platform’s Global Managing Director, emphasized that the move serves individuals and businesses who rely on UniCredit, reinforcing both firms’ shared focus on improving cross-border payment experiences.

Previously, UniCredit advanced its FX services through UC PayFX, supporting transfers in over 120 currencies and offering businesses real-time tracking and conversion tools via the UC PayFX Webservice. This integration directly tackles key inefficiencies in traditional cross-border payments — including delays, fragmented systems, and opaque fee structures.
