Vipps MobilePay Introduces “Tap with Vipps” for iPhone Users in Norway

Vipps MobilePay has launched "Tap with Vipps," a new NFC payment solution for iPhone users, marking the first alternative to Apple Pay. This innovative service allows users to make contactless payments through the Vipps MobilePay app, initially supporting BankAxept cards on nearly all card terminals in Norway, with Visa and Mastercard compatibility arriving soon.

Enabled by a recent EU agreement granting third-party wallet services access to iPhone’s NFC functionality, the feature offers Norwegian consumers more choices for contactless transactions. The rollout extends to customers of SpareBank 1, DNB, and over 40 other local banks, with plans to launch on Android and expand to Denmark, Finland, and Sweden next year.

Users can set Vipps as their default payment app, enabling seamless payments without opening the app. This development reflects Vipps MobilePay’s commitment to simplifying mobile payments while embracing competitive opportunities in the evolving European market.

According to CEO Rune Garborg, “This launch gives users the convenience of one app for all payments, meeting demand for a flexible alternative to traditional cards. We’re committed to ongoing improvements, adding more international cards, banks, and features soon.”
